California What Trails in California Actually Require a Jeep?

Will I need a Jeep for what I want to do?

The main benefit of a 2 door Wrangler for me here in SoCal is the tight turning radius and the ride quality of my setup. I do some real off the beaten path trails that anything with 4 doors or wide will not negotiate. My F-250 will do 95% of the places I go.
Remember trails that are the most fun will give your vehicle souvenirs of the trip. I can’t have nice things and tend to scratch and ding them.

Wondering if I can get away with a Rav4 everywhere. I don't plan on rock-crawling. I just want to go off-road, hit Lake Tahoe in winter, see the mountains, death valley, etc.

For your needs, I'd go 4runner over Rav4 or a Jeep. Snowboards/skis and gear fit better in a 4runner, creature comforts are nicer, the back seats lay flat and you can sleep in it for camping. More than capable for everything it sounds like you want to do but still small enough to get through the streets of SF. Rav4 has low clearance in snow, new Jeeps are still pretty stripped down and over kill if you aren't wheeling

Shameless plug for the 4Runner. I was always anti foreign cars, I love my old 4Runner now.

I know theres a Jeep vrs Toyota thing but credit where its due. My girl has an 03' with 389k miles that runs and drives great. Every 3rd world military is still driving 1986 Toyota pick ups lol

Remember, SF is NOT Northern California
You got 350 miles to the North and 850 miles to the south and 220 going east
Hours and hours of driving anywhere.
Lots of trails out there.
I prefer the ones that I don't see other people more than here or there

Here's what I would get if I had to move to SF
