Frame rot

Almost done prepping. Will be adding some material here and there to reinforce some thing spots and avoid blowing it out.
I would not recommend doing this job without a lift.

One recommendation for when you are ready to start welding. Undo ALL body mounts and then lift up the body about 2-4 inches on the side you are working on.

This will help the welder when doing the inside. they will be able to get a better angle.
I did this similar job in two stages. The driver side the first year then 2 years later did the passenger side. Both sides are holding up very well and be prepared for the skid plates to not line p when it is all done.
 
That's a good point on the body mounts its pretty tight in there. Ill see what i can do to get those out.
I was thinking I might be able to without with this flexible MIG extension (Attached)

As far as the skid plate i was going to get it close and kind of verify the alignment prior to welding and make the adjustments then

This project is coming along. As expected there have been a bunch of additional patches needed. Needless to say the jeep is a loss and I regret that I will be getting it back together this weekend and likely just selling it. Its got a decent drive train so at least its worth something to someone.

That was painful to read through from the beginning. I daily my TJ.. it's lived in the NE all its' life. Two owners prior and the original owner was a Jeep Master Mechanic. The frame was/is solid. Drilled drain holes the day I got home, flushed the frame for months in preparation for Fluid Film and POR15. It's holding up well. I repeat the FF annually. Last year I saw a small bit of cancer at the rear and did a spot repair and repeated the FF. Doing all I can do to keep it alive.

So getting it back together this weekend and selling it? You're finished with the welding? All that only to sell it? 😢

That person needs to up their game...clearly at least one more strap is needed, at least one can of spray foam and some chassis black spray paint. Maybe a couple of giant cable ties or some tie wire/bailing wire.

You should have seen the 99 my dad’s friend donated us. The gas tank skid plate rotted off so he chicken wired the tank to the frame LOL

I actually I assisted on a roadside repair using a couple straps to hold the front of a rear leaf spring on a CJ7 from pulling to the side AND about half a dozen giant cable ties to keep the whole mess in line with where is was supposed to be.

Yes it was on the roadside and not a pathside but driving anything back to the mainland (partially by way of ferry) to get an actual repair probably saved near $1000 for any wrecker or flatbed to get it there
