College Budget Build

I'm always amazed at WHAT people DON'T know about their rigs. And I always laugh when I read an ad from some dealership that says they have a Jeep TJ with a 4.0 V-6 engine.....

Unless it is a Rubicon model it came with a Dana 30 front and a Dana 35 or 44 rear axle. The Rubicon model came with a Dana 44 front & rear. The way you can tell if your rear is a Dana 35 or 44 is a Dana 35 came with a rubber plug in the stock cover where the Dana 44 came with a metal screw in plug. The shape between the two axles is also very different.
Took a closer look at my axles today and confirmed that it is Dana 30 front and 35 rear. Thanks for your help!

No problem that is what this forum is for. So as I said before keep a watch for someone parting out a 4 cylinder TJ and if you can get the axles for CHEAP it's a easy gear change. In the newer 4 cyl TJ's with the 2.4 & an auto tranny some had 4.56 gears. But they are hard to find.

Nice work so far! I’ll be following along. I also have a white 2001 Sahara

A couple weeks ago my A/C went out. First I replaced my blower motor since it’s a pretty inexpensive and easy fix but that didn’t fix it. I finally took the time to take apart the dash yesterday and look at the back of the control module. I found that the electrical connector for the a/c heater control was melted.

Thanks to some advice from @TrueTexas I was able to fix the problem with some female slide connectors and heat shrink. B4D459B6-4D19-499E-BA51-5E31B31266A3.jpeg
Now I have heat heat for my first winter in my Jeep👍🏼

If your heat is anything like mine, you will never want to put it on full blast. 🔥

It's been a few years since I've posted anything cause life got busy finishing college, getting married, moving, starting a new job, and all that fun stuff. Besides, there wasn't much change to my Jeep other than just maintenance until about a year ago. So, I thought I'd revive this thread and share all my updates!

Shortly after my last post, I found some Rubicon rocker guards on Facebook Marketplace for $50! I’ve always loved the look of them so I jumped on that deal. I also got some new fenders since the paint on mine was pretty bad and one was cracked. I also think the black fenders with the new rocker guards are a better look. Besides the sticker, there’s not much of my Jeep that’s Sahara anymore lol.

To get the new rocker guards on I had to remove the old plastic Sahara ones. There were a few bolts under the body and they were attached by a track at the top. I drilled out the rivets holding on the track, filled them in with bondo, and used a paint match rattle can to cover them up. Then I drilled new holes for the new Rubi rockers and used rivnuts to be able to bolt them up. It was a good bit of work but I'm very happy with how it came out.

I found a complete soft top on FB so I sold my hard top and picked up the soft top. I loved the look of the black top but started missing the tan so I ended up getting a new one. I love the soft top and being able to take it off in minutes rather than needing an extra person and somewhere to put the hardtop when I wanted to take it off. After having it for about 3 years now I’ve never really missed the hard top. Yeah, it’s louder but that doesn’t bother me much.

I also had busted one of my stock fog lights a few months earlier when I didn’t see a stick poking out into a trail and it hit directly on the light. Somehow, no other damage was done. Just gave me an excuse to get some KC lights😀 I actually got some for my birthday so even better! They are so much brighter than stock and look way cooler.
