Mysterious button on drivers left side near door

i noticed this button when i took my doors off, is it to make the doors close better or something else?

That’s the door switch, so the dome light comes on when you open the door, etc.

You may also notice that your dome light stays on with your doors off

Switch has been on most every vehicle I have ever owned that had a dome light

Pro tip: remove fuse #4 from the box behind the glove compartment to defeat the door switch and prevent interior lights from staying on. Be warned that this also defeats the chime that warns you when your headlights are left on and the door is opened. The interior lights have an automatic timed shutoff but the headlights do not.

They don't know what they're talking about - that's actually an engine killswitch.

Hold that down every time you turn on/off the jeep to prevent massive engine damage

...As said above, it's the door switch, pull the fuse or wire in a switch to turn off the dome light. Kits are available online to add the switch to turn off the dome light when you pull the doors.
