I had a lot of brake squealing, and I recently checked the front discs, all looks good.
Pulled the drums yesterday, and noticed this weird pattern on the drum surface.
What caused this? Or is it normal?

What do the shoes look like?

Sure looks like shoes were gone at some point and it was metal on metal.

I was thinking the same thing. I believe they call it "heat checking", when you see this on brake rotors?
I plan to just buy new drums, having them turned is just not worth it today.
Auto parts stores around here, want between $65 and $85 a drum.
Going to look online for a better price. As those prices are crazy!

I buy coated drums and rotos from Rock Auto. Even with shipping, they beat the box store prices by a long shot.

The coated pieces look good for years.
