What did you do to your TJ today?

Went down and picked up some wood. My daughter is going to make a box with a drawer, a pull out shelf / table and a small open space on one end in wood-shop. Got a 4x8x3/4” veneer walnut plywood for $50, normally $185. It had some damage at one end.

Last time, I told the manager it's not me, it's the idiots you hire that put the lug nuts on the impact wrench first, then stick it on the wheel stud.

That's exactly how they trashed my old studs. It's on me to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Think I fixed the Jeep flares after the accident..got my mate over and we used a soldering iron and zip ties To melt the plastic back together again and created a place to re-drill and bolt them back on after the original bolts pulled through and ripped holes in it.

Seems to do the trick And will save me buying a whole new set of fender flares.

You know you could order a replacement set through Amazon…..to soon?

Been daily driving mine since I got it. It is more fun to drive than my Silverado and it keeps miles off the truck. Luckily I work from home, but do drive to the airport very frequently and to job sites within a couple hours.

The new PRP seats make it a lot better.
I daily mine as well. Have yet to come with a reason not to.

You sleep in a hammock while camping? Man, you're hardcore💪. We got bears here in Virginia mountains. Lots of them. You gotta have a tent and 45 magnum wouldn't hurt either! I can deal with the snakes but bears?
I've heard ticks can jump from trees. You're right hairy legs. They help. Although my wife says they tickle!
Been doing it for about fifteen years.. I don't consider it hardcore, it's just a bajillion times more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. In all the years I am hammock camping I've had two encounters I could have done without. One was a dog that found me and nudged me in the middle of the night. I startled it and when it took off it pulled up one of the tarp guy lines as it took off, so I know I didn't imagine it. The second encounter? I have no idea what it was. I heard it clip one of the guy lines and that was it. Seen tons of wildlife.. Bears, deer, rattle snakes, coyote.. you name it. Never had an issue.

Tell me this.. how does a tent protect you? If something wants you (two, four or no legs) is the thin fabric of a tent going to help? I'm up and down the east coast and have been in Virginia backpacking. I worry more about two legged than four. Camp hygiene is critical. I use a "stinky bag". DCF sack that holds everything that has a scent. Snacks, lip balm, wrappers, gum.. all stay in the stinky bag. That bag, plus my fanny pack and cook kit all go in my food bag which is ALWAYS hung away from camp. I NEVER camp at shelters.. they are the drive-thru for bears, raccoons, porcupines, mice, chipmunks etc. Plus, I hate people.

Took the steering wheel off and stitched a new leather cover on it. Looks and feels sooooo much better.
I have a second steering wheel and a RedLineGoods leather skin I have been procrastinating on installing. I should sell it. I bought a second wheel and had it professionally wrapped with some added padding.

Had a day of good and bad news…
Good news… Hi Jeep passed its six monthly inspection..👍
Bad news….. driving down the freeway at night in the rain and one of the freeway workers left a stack of cones in the middle of the road I hit it. The left hand side of the Jeep lifted off the ground but I managed to keep it in its lane… I think the only damage is to one of the fender flares… I will look at it more in the morning

I had a similar thing happen to the same exact fender flare but mine was from bottoming out in vehicle sized ruts last year at silver lake sand dunes in Michigan 😂

Just a few thoughts on the ticks...
I backpack.. a lot.
Every season I soak just about everything in Permethrin. Shoes, socks, shorts, shirts, hats, pants, sun sleeves.. everything except my underwear. Just can't get comfortable with the Permethrin against my nuts..
I soak the stuff and then sun dry. Repeat it about half way through the heavy season.
My hammocks (no tents for me) get sprayed. The hammocks that have bug nets get sprayed.
I use a permethrin cream on exposed skin.

So, pretty much everything is treated.

With all this done, I have still found ticks crawling up the leg of my pants that have been freshly treated. On my shoes. I've found them on my legs that have been treated (nice to have hairy legs.. you can feel the tickling as the bugs travel). Seems like nothing REALLY stops them. Finding them and killing them is an end-of-day camp ritual.

I can tell you first hand, they drop out of trees. Most will do as @Rickyd describes.. hangout on the ends of long grass waiting for something to pass by close enough to hitch a ride. But I stopped on the trail under some pine trees to check my location.. looking down at my hands holding the map and from directly above a tick lands on the back of left hand. If I didn't see it land on me I would call bullshit.. but I saw it. So there's that..

You haven’t lived until you’ve had to mostly disrobe in a Dairy Queen bathroom so you can flush the 17 ticks you’ve found crawling all over you.

That sucks.
I threw a great pair of hiking boots in the trash because they were infested. Walked through a nest of ticks or something. I tried everything.. bleach, Permethrin, soaked under water for a few days. Nothing worked.

How did soaking them underwater not work?

I’d have tried bagging them and throw them in the deep freezer for a while.

Got me.
I put them in a bucket weighted down with a brick.
When that failed I added the bleach.

Cro-magnon bugs

Cockroaches look at Tics and say “Damn, those boys are tough…”
