That trip was a blast. Glad Christian had fun! An LS is a long ways off since I’ll likely ride out this 4.0 as long as it stays alive. Maybe I should go back to daily driving it to speed that process up a bitMy son, Christian, was riding with Garrett and from the trail head out to the trail and back he opened the TJ up. My son said " I was originally scared when he started flying out the access roads but once I realized that he drove like that because he had the skill do it, it became really fun!!"
I would like to see and LS in that TJ so he can show the rest of us how it's done

I’ll be curious to see how it rides after the rebuild is all done. It wasn’t horrible by any means even with blown shocks and bushings. Just wandery steering.

Took a break from the tow piggy today. A leak under our sink led to a very soggy cabinet floor that was caving in. So today I went out and got a m12 oscillating multi tool and cut out the floor under the sink. Drying everything out with a fan and dehumidifier our buddy lent us. I will be building a removable floor just in case my wife decides to change the water filters again

M12 or m18? I did m12 just because I think the compact aspect will be more useful than extra horsepower on that tool

Here’s just a 5 second run on the frame with a brush. It’s just a light coat of surface rust. Almost seems like the frame had no paint on it lol

Pulled the I beam and radius arm
Popped the old bushing out and drove a new bushing in. Factory left about 1/4” between the edge of the bushing and the I beam so I left it that way as well.
Painted the I beams with Krylon Rust tough high gloss
And painted the frame with krylon semi flat wherever I had easy access with all the parts taken out. As crusty as she looked it was mostly dirt and a little surface rust caked on there. Not going for a super detail oriented on this truck as it’s just a budget build. I took a carbon steel brush and brushed it up and then scotchbrite pad and washed it all off with some simple green and gave her some paint. Converting all the surface rust and perfectly sealing it isn’t really my intention as it doesn’t matter here in AZ. Mainly just doing a bang for buck aesthetic cleanup. Plus the frame is all open, so it isn’t like a TJ where rot can lurk within.
I’ll keep painting sections of the frame here and there as I get to them when it’s convenient and have easy access.

It's funny that all the clean up work takes way longer than the repair. At least that always seems to be the case for me!

Oh for sure. It’s just too difficult for us to put dirty rusty parts back on

Just less to deal with and maintain. A little bit of weight and fuel savings without a TC and front shaft.
It also keeps me in check so I don’t get carried away with it off road. And it’s easy to convert to 4x4 if need be
I actually want to start towing the jeep with it.

You need better shocks if you plan to hit the mall that hard. You'll hit a speed bump going sideways, bottom out your suspension, and next thing you know all your ducks will be on the floor.
