Sorry for the YJ question

My daughter, Luci has a ‘95 YJ with the 2.5 and AX5. With 33 inch tires what gears should we run? I don’t see this in the charts.
TIA

Brian

So, it kind of boils down to how you plan to use the Jeep. More on-road and casual off-road driving? Go with 4.56. Mostly tough trails and rugged use? Maybe consider the 4.88.

I still have my 95 YJ with a 4 cyl with 33's and 4:88's were a good choice

You should be going to 5.13 for 33’s.

A 5-speed 4 cylinder YJ came with 205/75R15 and 4.11 gears. The nominal diameter for that size tire is 26.33”.

In stock form: 70 mph - 3121 rpm

33” tire comes out to a nominal 31.5”, on average

70 mph:

4.88 - 3096
5.13 - 3255

So 4.88 will actually still be worse than stock, and doesn’t even fully get back to the stock final drive ratio, much less make up for the heavier tires. 5.13 will make up for it a little bit, and will have a slightly lower ratio than stock.

5.13 is the way to go.

I have a 4 banger TJ too. I wouldn't put 5.13's on the highway with 33's. Going 70, you're at 3200 which is a bit much. You're at 3000 on the dot with 4.88 gears.

A stock YJ was just over 3100 rpm on the highway with a 2.5L 5-speed. Don’t know why anyone would want less than that after regearing.
