Loose accelerator pedal

Hello all this is my first post here! I recently bought an 2002 5 speed but I noticed the gas pedal is a bit loose and there a bit of Olay in the cable. My question is would I need to replace the whole cable or is there a way to adjust and tighten the cable? Thanks in advanced!

As in up and down. As you can see in the pictures it the cable doesn't seem as tight as it should.be.

Yes, not sure if this is normal but the cable seems loose up here too.

On top of the valve cover there is a plastic bracket that the cable should snap into. Is the cable in the bracket?

Yup, it's attached to both brackets. Could it be that the cable is just old and streached?

That's my guess..is it causing an issue?

It does make trying to heel toe challenging to do since the gas pedal is so low to the floor.
